10) How well do ductless mini-split HVAC systems work?

When I think of ductless HVAC systems, images from two old movies come to my mind. First I think about the window air conditioning unit that falls onto the elderly woman on Billy Madison. Then I think of the talking window A.C. unit blowing up on The Brave Little Toaster film. These HVAC systems are useful for any type of housing unit or structure too small for running ductwork. Think of small hotel rooms, a large shed, RV campers, mobile homes, and apartments. My friend Garrett had a very large shed converted into a mini house with a kitchen and bathroom. His father installed a mini-split air conditioning unit since there was no attic. I can testify to the mighty cooling strength of these systems. Just like the ones you see in motels, they can snap freeze a small room very quickly. Whenever I stayed in cheap hotels like Days Inn or La Quinta Inn, these mini-split A.C. systems would wake me up shivering underneath blankets. These are not like the central air conditioners in our homes that overshoot the thermostat temperature by a few degrees. If you put one of these ductless HVAC units on 65, it may well cool past it’s targeted temperature by five to eight degrees in a small room. I can honestly say you would not need ice in your drinks if you have one of these around. Simply placing your glass in front of this machine set at 65 degrees will guarantee a crisp, cold beverage for as long as it’s there in front of the A.C. fan. Do not underestimate the power of these ductless mini-split HVAC units.
