After an entire year of working as an HVAC technician, I finally got a raise. When I started at the company, I was actually an apprentice. I didn’t get paid at all the first few months, then finally started getting paid the minimum wage for a while. Now, I can finally say I am making more than the minimum wage. I am an HVAC service technician and I usually work on heat pumps, but I’m trying to learn a few other HVAC skills. I actually was thinking of moving to a large company soon because I want to learn more skills. I also heard that once you have experience, the large companies pay a lot better. I really do like my boss here, and I like working on heat pumps, but I am starting to get bored. I also need to start making more money soon because rents are going up in my city and I can barely keep up with the bills. My boss always mentions how he has high hopes for me and that he wants me to be employed at his company for a long time. Now that I finally got a raise, I feel bad for thinking about working at a different HVAC company so soon. However, I really want to be able to move up fast in my career and his company is really too small to do that. I’ve learned so much in the past year, but really want to experience working for a large HVAC company. I’d like to learn more about cooling systems, especially with the summer fast approaching. Some overtime pay would be nice too! Whatever happens, at least I’m no longer making minimum wage!
