Blast from the past

The daunting task of cleaning out a garage or attic is the last thing most of us want to do.  I can’t even imagine what it will be like when it comes time to do this at my parent’s home. They have lived in the same house for all of my life and there are things that have been there for over thirty years.  For this reason I have been researching companies that offer this service for you. They will go into a home, organize, clean out, or even auction off things for you. It can be pretty pricey for this service but it is worth it if you don’t have the time. This also takes away the emotional attachment to the things that may be being cleaned out.  With my parents aging and thinking of downsizing it makes sense to be prepared. We did go up in the attic at one point to take an overall assessment of what was there. I was shocked to see a collection of old space heaters piled in the corner. I laughed and remembered the one winter that we needed to depend on those to keep us from freezing. The furnace had died and dad was out of work.  We couldn’t afford to have the furnace fixed and many of our church members and friends offered space heaters that we could plug in throughout the house to keep us warm. I guess none of those people wanted the heaters back because they were all sitting in the attic. I asked my parents why they kept all of them and they said that it reminded them how lucky they were to now have the funds to fix anything that breaks and how Blessed they were to have so many people help us out back then.
