describing strange events

If I were to ask you to describe the strangest thing you’ve ever seen, how would you go about doing it? Would you find it easier to pull up pictures from the Internet, or begin an unexpected game of charades to play it out? Most of us would opt for simply looking up our strange sight on the web to determine what it is, and quickly find the truth. In the case of my father, he seems to prefer the latter – and it entertains us far more than we’d like to admit! See, my dad’s always been old-fashioned. He’s the kind o person who would rather sit and wait an hour for his appointment at the hair salon over checking in using an app on his phone. So, when the heating system they’ve relied on for years had been deemed unfit for use, my father was perturbed to say the least! He loved his “trusty old fireplace”, and insisted that it had never been a risk for a house fire since he had a chimney sweep come out every Fall. I wanted to agree with my dad, but I also wanted him to catch up to us in the twenty-first century by investing in  modern heating system. Whether it was a furnace that was gas-lit or electric, a hot water boiler that used steam to heat the house, or even radiant floors – just something that he could control with a thermostat, instead of an iron poker and a wood log! Well, my mom convinced him to invest in radiant floors for the house, saying it was going to be hassle-free and would be just as “fun” as a fireplace. When they finally had the radiant floors installed, my dad kept trying to tell us the basement was ablaze, because the floors were so hot! Oh well… we can’t all adapt to change with ease, can we?
