Expensive House Has No Central Heating and Cooling

My daughter moved to a more southern area of our state, and she is now much closer to the beach.

I think she really likes the move, and, in fact, I have been considering making a similar move myself.

She lives on the west coast of the state, but I have been thinking about moving to the southeast side of the state, which is where I spent the majority of my childhood. It turns out, though, that I may be re-thinking that. My daughter has a friend who lives right in my town where I grew up, and we have decided that the cost of living there is too outrageous for words. Her friend, Marcie, bought a very small house there. I could have purchased four of my houses for what she paid for that one, and guess what? It has no central heating and cooling! I could not even believe it! That’s right, she paid almost half a million dollars for a house that is just over 1000 square feet and only has window air conditioners! I did not even know that it was legal to sell a house in our state without a decent air conditioning system. I mean, a/c is a necessity when living in the hot and humid southeast. I have lived here since the 1970s and I have never lived in a house without central heating and cooling. I suggested that she replace the window a/c units with the newer, better mini-split air conditioners, and she wants to do that. However, the price of the house means her mortgage payments are so high, it’s going to take a while to save up the money for the new a/c units. Ridiculous!
