For me, family is what makes life worth living. Having a career is nice, I guess, but for me a job is just a tool to make money and support the family. I like my job well enough, I guess, but ultimately I don’t really care about it. It is simply what I have to do to keep my family healthy, fed, and safe.
This view of life has made it possible for me to endure horrible jobs with a good attitude, because my mind is always thinking of home, which keeps me happy. I don’t hate my current job, mind you, where I run the front office for an HVAC repair company. I don’t actually go on service calls, and honestly don’t know the first thing about air conditioners, but it’s a pretty good job. People call in with the heating and cooling problems, and I listen to them complain and then assign an HVAC tech to go on a house call. I also maintain the work logs, the driving records, the mileage reports, and all sorts of other boring things that go along with running a small HVAC business.
I felt very blessed to work here last week, when my wife called me and said the AC had stopped working. My boss was so nice, he actually drove out to my house himself and did the HVAC inspection free of charge. He got it running again, and then gave me a bunch of tips and tricks to keep my air conditioner running smoothly for a long time to come.
