Finally automating the home

I would really enjoy to substitute our lake house with an automation system, but more and more of the appliances I purchase include Wi-Fi capability, and i’m now able to control our oven, washing machine, dryer, Tim Hortons Latte maker and microwave through my phone.

  • I receive text notifications from our water heater, sump pump and dehumidifier, there are simply too many apps and rather than adding convenience, managing all of these odd gadgets is getting confusing, then with a lake house automation system, I’d have a central hub to simplify operation.

I could include door locks, lighting, sound system, surveillance cameras, smoke detectors, window sensors and temperature control. I’ve decided to start small and recently invested into a smart control unit. The brand new control unit offers so many features that I worried I wouldn’t be able to operate it… However, the touchscreen interface was attractively user-friendly and guided myself and others through the set up. For the first week after the installation, the control unit tracked every adjustment I made to temperature and l learned that my family’s schedule and preferences. It then created a customized program and I rarely need to adjust the thing. The control unit also includes something called geofencing, which monitors the location of our smartphones. When any member of the family enters a certain radius of the house, the control unit adjusts temperature to welcome us back home to perfect temperature. When all of us leave for job and school, the plan raises or lowers the temperature to conserve energy. I appreciate that I can really access all sorts of information or make changes through our smartphone from virtually wherever I please. The smart control unit helps myself and others to take better care of the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C plan and trim energy costs. Having the smart control system installed has convinced myself and others that a lake house automation system would be super beneficial.
