My life philosophy is easy enough – make sure you constantly have at least more than one plan in all situations. Plan A is of course how you want things to be controlled, and then plan B is your backup in case things don’t go as you planned! Simple, right? Well, despite the simplicity of having more than one plan, not many homeowners will act in such a way when it comes to their own home and their HVAC systems. My older sibling is just like that, too, and he still often complains to myself and others about how things never seem to go his way. Still, I try to remind him that he can improvise as well as find another way. One superb example of this is with our home’s gas furnace! I recently renovated the first floor in our house and so the entire lower level of our home is warmed with a radiant heating method that warms the home from the ground up. This radiant heating is a beautifully effective as well as safe way to keep toasty warm in the Wintertime, but I’ll admit that it may not be powerful enough of a heater to keep myself and others toasty warm when freezing weather comes. To help get through those bitter cold afternoons, I have the small gas-lit fireplace that’s in our bedroom. But unlike a real fireplace that requires wood logs to keep burning for any length of time. But the gas-lit fireplace is contained as well as a constant source of heat. I still should be careful not to fall asleep while the fireplace is burning. But I don’t have to worry as much about the fire possibly getting out of control when I’m not able to get to it. With more than one system ready to go, I guess I have Plan A as well as Plan B ready for the weather!
