I have decided that I am getting rid of all my carpet and replacing it with tile.
I am tired of cleaning my rugs and hating the colors of them. Tile is really the best solution for everything. You can drop or spill on them with no big deal. The tile looks way cleaner and can clean up nicer. I am also thinking about heated flooring. With rugs the heat gets trapped underneath. Tile absorbs the radiant heat the best. It is said a homeowner can lower the thermostat temperature because of how effective the tile is. Also, the heat stays at the lowest level of the house rather than rises. So there is no wasted air. Another benefit is radiant heat is absorbed into objects like the couch, loveseat and recliners. With tile, this is an easy task to have. I already have the tile, grout and tile cutter purchased. All I need to do is rip up the carpet and old flooring. I then need to purchase the heated flooring device. You can get an HVAC contractor to do the heating installation. I think I am doing it on my own though. I am not doing hydronic heating with a boiler system. I am just going to put down electric heated mats underneath the tile. It should be simple. I will take my time and do it right. I also save a bunch of money on the installation costs and I already have most of the materials that I need. I just will need to set up the heater in every room of the house.
