Heading back to the party

My spouse and I try different restaurants every week, and it’s become a game between the two of us. Because we always look for new options, we have been to every restaurant in our city. Now we have to venture across the river to try something new. A few months ago, she became vegan and is sticking to a plant-based diet. I was bothered at first, because I thought it would limit our restaurant options. But actually, there are a lot of vegan and vegetarian options on that side of the river. There are a lot of hippie hangouts over there and they often eat plant-based food. A friend of hers at work told her about a new vegan restaurant, so we decided to check it out last Wednesday. As it was her turn to pick, I was along for the ride. When we got there, it was seedy and terrible smelling. It was clear that the ventilation wasn’t working well because we were overwhelmed by the smell of tofu and mushrooms. We were seated and waiting for our server when I noticed the exposed ducting overhead. A lot of places in that area have started doing that. It looks nice if done correctly. Sadly, this one was neglected and we could see the dust that had formed on it. We were so disgusted by that, along with the smell of bean sprout from the table next to us, so we decided to leave before ordering anything.
