In my opinion there is nothing more strange than heading home for winter break after your first few months away at college your freshman year.
- After finally breaking through the homesick phase and getting comfortable with your new living arrangements, you are sent back home where you are suddenly eating home cooked meals, seeing your old buddies you grew up with, and sleeping in your old bed.
Out of all of these things, the thing that threw me off the most when I came home for winter break was how much more comfortable it was living at home versus back in my dorm room. I had gotten so used to the extreme lack of quality heating and cooling units and eating ramen noodles for the majority of my dinners that my mind and body felt a bit thrown off when I was at home soaking in the state of the art heating and cooling units and eating like a king. It was amazing to spend so much time with my family and get to enjoy the extra comforts that come with being at home, but once that time period was over and I made my way back to college I felt like I had taken two steps backwards. Instead of waking up to the warmth of the heating and cooling unit flowing through the house and the smell of food cooking in the air, I was back to the cold and the sound of my roommate snoring. I guess that all I can do is keep pushing forward and hope that my sophomore year turns out a little better!
