Even though I don’t make any money with my art, I still take it very seriously. I work 40 to 45 hours each week in a drab and dull office, where I wear a tie and sit in a cubicle staring at a screen. After work is when I get to be myself and indulge in the finer things in life. In other words, without my art to keep me sane, I might literally go crazy from the monotony of my otherwise awful life. This is why I converted my back room into an art studio and why I spend so much of my free time there. I used to have a major issue with the temperature control system in the studio. The room itself was added on after the house was built, so the system of air ductwork does not connect the room to the rest of the house. What that means is when the AC is running and cooling off the whole house, very little cooling makes it into the studio. This gave me problems for a while until I decided to buy a portable AC unit just for the studio. It cost a pretty penny, but I have to say this little air conditioner was worth the price. Not only does it regulate the temp of the room wonderfully, but it sucks all the toxic paint odors out of the air quality with the built in air filters. It also provides a nice white noise in the background as I work, so I have to say the little AC unit is really the heart of my art studio.
