I prefer my job to some of the other jobs out there

I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I was in high school.

My mom was a school teacher and my dad was a car mechanic.

My older sister finished high school and got a job working in a diner. I didn’t think college was the answer for me, but I certainly didn’t want to work in a restaurant for the rest of my life. Lucky for me, I found an internship when high school was over. I had to work three months for free, but I lived with my mom and dad. They were very supportive during the process. The internship was with an HVAC repair company. My dad knew the owner of the company and the guy was looking for a young person to train in the HVAC repair industry. It was hard to find someone that would work for free. At that time, there weren’t a bunch of expensive training programs to teach people about HVAC repair. If you went into the profession, it was due to the fact that it was a family career. I worked hard during the three months that I was training and learning the job. The owner of the company taught me everything that he knew about heating and air conditioning repair. I have been in the field for 20 years now and I absolutely prefer my job to some of the other jobs out there. My sister is the manager of a restaurant and she has to work at night. I’m home everyday by 6 and I have benefits like health, dental, and a retirement plan. I thank God everyday that I was lucky enough to find a career instead of a job.
