Anyone who lives or has lived in the north knows the drill on snow and ice. All kinds of energy is devoted to mitigating the extent to which snow plus ice affect our lives. There are bags upon bags of ice melt to buy. Not to mention all the snow blowers, plows, shovels plus rubber boots that are bought. Yet, every one of us tend to forget about the other fancy components around our loft, which can be harmed by snow as well as ice buildup. Many of us use a gas furnace for our heating needs while in the winter. That air conditioner unit outside next to the home needs some attention. The best thing to do is to simply cover the unit. Go online, there is a wide variety of covers which will minimize corrosion plus rust from snow plus ice build up. Believe it or not, those gorgeous daggers of ice hanging off the roof can be terrifying for HVAC components. They can seriously harm the equipment when they fall from a height only to hit the air conditioner. But, I know the most drastic thing is keeping all vents clear plus uncongested. The gas furnace fire needs oxygen to breathe or it will quit. In addition to this, the exhaust needs to flow uncongested to minimize any opportunity of pushing CO2 back into the plan or worse, the house. Most gas furnaces have a safety switch that would shut it down. But still, just not good. So, while you’re thinking about the driveway plus the sidewalk, take a walk around the home too. Snow and ice are elegant, just don’t let them be harmful.
