It doesn’t always work out

My friend Jane and I have been best pals since the seventh grade.

As we started to get older and had to think about what we wanted to do after high school we both decided that it would be a good idea to be roommates at college.

We were going to the same local university, so it seemed like a perfect fit. When I told my mother this she didn’t seem as excited as I had hoped. She didn’t tell me I wasn’t allowed to be roommates with jane, but she did tell me that it was a bad idea. Now that I am enrolled at my university and I have been living with Jane for a few months I am starting to see that my mom might have been right. I love my best friend, but we are two very different people. She has always been the type to splurge while I have always been more frugal. For example, no matter how cool it is outside during the summer she loved to have the air conditioning unit running on full power. Even when I would tell her to lay off running the air conditioning and mention that I leave the windows down to let a breeze in I would come home from class to find that the a/c was running. She has also turned out to be quite a party animal. I can’t count how many times I come home during a workday to find a dozen people in my home acting loud and crazy. Take it from me, if you want to stay friends with someone, it is a good idea to just avoid living with them.
