This year marks the eighteenth year that we have been in our home, so as most homes do, eventually things start to wear out. Usually this happens at the most inopportune time, and often with little or no notice. For instance, last year we had to replace our refrigerator because the freezer side of it quit working. Naturally, it quit working while we were at work so we came home to all sorts of thawed and dripping things in there. The year before that, the microwave and range hood stopped working at the same time and had to be replaced. This year, our air conditioning unit gave up the ghost. Thankfully it happened during the spring so the weather was nice outside. It also went against the usual tradition of bad timing and occurred while the local HVAC service and repair company was having an inventory and inspection sale. We called them up and the next day the HVAC technician was out to look at our system. The compressor it seems, had seized up and fried itself internally. We ended up having to buy a whole new unit, so we decided to replace the handler and heater unit as well. With the amount we saved during their sale, it still ended up being less than if we had just bought the compressor at regular price. The afternoon after the HVAC technician came out, they delivered the new unit and had it installed in less than two hours after they got there. I am thankful that this happened during that sale, because now we are back to a nice cool house.
