The other day, I was at a get together with some friends. We were all relaxing and having some drinks. Somehow, the topic of conversation went to how much we were paying for our energy bills. All of my buddies were bragging how they had low cost energy bills because of their secrets to keeping up their HVAC systems. This was kind of annoying me because I was asking about what the secrets were to keeping up HVAC systems, and nobody wanted to tell me. Eventually I decided I was going to leave because I was interested in this stuff since my energy bills were very costly but nobody bothered to fill me in. One buddy of mine didn’t want me to leave and said they were just joking. He explained some energy saving tips that were fairly straightforward. He said that to ultimately save energy, you need to take proper care of your HVAC equipment. He said that you can achieve this mainly by changing the air filter regularly every month. I couldn’t believe these ‘secrets’ were as simple as changing the air filter. He was saying that a lot of people fail to do just that and it’s the most important thing you can do for your system. It keeps the dirt and debris from entering your HVAC equipment which allows the system to run smoothly and efficiently. It actually made sense the way he explained it to me. He also said it was crucial to get regular HVAC tune-ups and maintenance appointments at least twice per year. He said the best times to get the tune-ups were before the winter and summer seasons. When I learned the ‘secrets’ to energy savings, I was able to take it easy and enjoy my night.
