Leaving for trip when heater fails; leave space heater for roomies

I like to think that I am a real ride or die friend.

If you are a friend of mine, I will be by your side no matter what.

Even when I am feeling cross with my friends, if they call me in the middle of the night and need help, I’m out of bed and on the way in a flash. I would never abandon somebody in their time of need. That’s why, it was pretty difficult for me to leave my roommates freezing at home when I left for my amazing tropical vacation. You see, for the past several months I’ve been planning a beachside getaway with my boyfriend. We’ve been wanting to enjoy some sun and sand together, and decided to take a trip down to the beach in the middle of winter. I am genuinely looking forward to using the central air conditioning system in our beachside condo, rather than blasting the heat in our normal winter climate. I was nearly packed for the trip on the morning of our flight, when I noticed that the indoor air temperature at home was feeling pretty crisp. My roommates wandered into the room about an hour later and told me that the heater wasn’t working. There was cold air blasting from every vent. I wasn’t sure what to do, because I needed to be on a plane in less than 2 hours. I didn’t want to leave my roomies hanging with this cold nightmare, but what could I do? Before I left, I pulled my space heater out of my car and offered it to my roommates. I felt terrible as I boarded my plane towards sunny beaches, but the guilt subsided when my roommates told me they hadn’t paid the gas company.
