My brother Steve tries to do all of his repair jobs at his house himself.
Unfortunately, Steve doesn’t really have any formal training when it comes to anything like repair or maintenance work at all.
He has literally no clue what he’s doing when it comes to plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling, or ventilation work. Of course, that doesn’t stop him from trying to do things himself. He is always trying to fix things so that he can save money on repairs. He’s definitely not a professional when it comes to anything like that. He’s actually an accountant and a bit of a computer nerd, if you want to know the truth. I don’t know why he persists on trying to do all of these things in his house that he doesn’t know how to do. He only ends up tearing things up more than they already are and he has to pay even more for repairs than he would have to begin with. A good example is how he decided a few weeks ago that instead of calling an HVAC company to send out someone to do a professional furnace repair for him, Steve decided that he would watch a video online and figure out how to do it himself. Before he finally gave up on fixing the furnace, the whole thing was torn to pieces downstairs. He had a lot of explaining to do when the professional HVAC technician finally showed up to do the job for real. I think Steve needs to face facts and stick with doing accounting.
