He got home right around 10Pm and he was very apologetic.
I was really upset when my husband didn’t make it home for his birthday. We always made a big deal of his birthday because it is also our anniversary. I knew that he had certain days that he was on call and he would need to work late. I never thought he would be on call for his birthday. I had a romantic dinner prepared and I was wearing a new dress. I couldn’t believe that he wasn’t home yet. The candle burned down and still he wasn’t home. When I called his cell phone, he didn’t answer. I finally called the call center and I asked if they knew where my husband was. They said that he had been called out about five minutes before his shift. It was for a broken furnace. Right now I was hating that he was an HVAC technician. There weren’t very many professions that would make house calls or emergency house calls, and he had to choose one that offered emergency service. I could understand that it was important to have your furnace fixed quickly, but I was hating whoever it was that had called him. He got home right around 10Pm and he was very apologetic. He told me about the older couple who didn’t have any heating and he couldn’t put them off. He said that if it were on of our parents without heating, we wouldn’t want the HVAC tech to tell them wait until morning. I remembered why I married this crazy HVAC technician. I reheated the dinner while he showered and sat down at the kitchen table while he ate.
