My job forces me to take weird hours each week

One of the most discouraging things about toiling away at an HVAC supplier is the fact that I end up having to work most holiday weekends, which wouldn’t even be a sizable deal if it weren’t for the fact that I got married last year.

  • Now my wife gets genuinely ticked off when I have to miss holiday gatherings because of a broken cooling system or a busted gas furnace.

She hates it when I work weekends, but she especially hates it if it’s when she’s tied up with friends or family, then that makes her so agitated. I keep trying to tell her that I can’t help it that my job makes me work such strange shifts; and when people are having trouble with their heating or their a/c, you simply have to be available to do service and repairs. It seems like a lot of times, there are tons of repairs that need to be done over the holiday weekends around here, and maybe it’s because people are having family parties and stuff like that and they are running their a/cs and furnaces more than usual. I know that makes sense, but that doesn’t help matters with my wife and her mindset. I believe she would like it more if I had a typical 9 to 5 job like other women expect their men to have. It’s just that I genuinely like doing HVAC work and I do make pretty nice currency at it, too. I don’t see myself swapping jobs any time soon, so I know I’m just going to have to learn to deal with my wife being agitated over the hours.
