I do save on my bills not running the AC
Power outages are not really a bad thing at my house. When I used to live in the north, no electric was horrible. The house was pitch black and we could not use any water. That meant no flushing of toilets, no shower and no washing hands until the lines got fixed. The guys always took their sweet time too. Typically my father would have to hook up a generator since we could not go without heating. The house temperature would decrease in a matter of minutes. A perfectly heated house would be a freezing house in around ten minutes flat. So anytime the power went out, we were all frantic. In the south it stays bright. I hardly worried about no lights. I also have a pool. I just shower and use the pool water for a lot of things. When it comes to HVAC, that is no problem either. I can go a long time without heating in the south, it just is not that cold. If the power goes out in the summer, no AC is a little more stressful. I do worry that the lack of AC will allow the indoor air to be moist. Then I might deal with mold growth. But, other than that, not having AC is not too bad. I do save on my bills not running the AC. If I get a little too hot, I just swim in my pool. I think I could go weeks if I needed to. Funny enough, the power in the south gets fixed way faster than it ever did in the north.
