Teaching my parents how to shop online

With winter approaching I worry all the time about my elderly parents driving.  The roads in our area are covered in snow and ice for much of the season and it can be very dangerous to be out and about.  I am trying to get them to understand that just about anything they need can be ordered online. I can’t remember the last time I even went to the store or picked up a phone to arrange for something I needed.  I even schedule my doctor’s appointments, service calls, and buy movie tickets online. My parents are very old fashioned and can’t imagine getting things done without that personal connection. One of the things that they needed done, which was a great learning opportunity, was the service appointment for their HVAC system.  I stopped by to help them find a reputable technician online. The older guy who had always worked on their system had retired so they really didn’t know who to call. We started by looking for ones nearby and then moved on to customer ratings and references. Within an hour we had their appointment lined up and even a photo of the technician that would be performing the check up.  It turns out that the HVAC dealers in the area underutilized the internet. The one we went with had a high quality webpage that was easy to navigate and a full list of services that they offered. Even my dad was impressed. He said that in the old days he would have just called one up from the phone book and hoped for the best. Now, thanks to the online marketing, the HVAC company that would be working for them came highly recommended and he knew that they would able to provide the exact services he wanted.
