When I was in high school, I always had this one friend that I could count on. Josh was always there when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Josh was there when I didn’t have a date and needed a hand to hold onto at the school dances. We were neighbors when we were growing up. When we went to college, we happened to be in the same school, and it was not planned. When we got to our sophomore year, I didn’t want to live in the dorms anymore, and it was Josh and I who got an apartment together. It was so nice to be able to live with your best friend. We had similar tastes and we both loved having the thermostat set at seventy, whether it was winter or summer. That first year in the apartment, was amazing. We were in our junior year, when Josh got a girlfriend. I may have been a bit jealous at first. I’m not sure if it was because of his girlfriend, or because I didn’t have a boyfriend. When she began to come over to the apartment more often, she got really comfortable. I liked her, but she had a habit of changing the thermostat. I would come home from work and the furnace would be running and it would be almost eighty in the house. I would change the thermostat back to seventy. I always knew his girlfriend was there because the thermostat was at seventy-eight. He talked to his girlfriend and told her she had to leave the thermostat alone. The next time she came over, she had a sweater with her.
