A couple of months ago, we had a huge storm go through that left us without power for almost a week. We didn’t have use of the washer, dryer, or our stove. The worst part of it all was that we didn’t have any air conditioning. The hurricane had gone through in August, and this is a lousy time to be without air conditioning when you live in the south. We swore that we would never go without electricity or air conditioning again. We decided it was time to purchase a generator. When winter arrived and the sales started, my wife and I went out and started to shop for a new generator. We did a lot of talking to salesmen, hoping to get some idea of what size generator was right for our needs. We heard about generators that were wired in and some that had to be started manually. My dad told me he could do the wiring and save us some money, so we went with the hard wired generator. We were so glad we made this choice. Although the generator was a bit more expensive, it was well worth. When a storm went through recently, our generator turned on as the lights went out. We didn’t have to go into the wind and rain. We were able to have our air conditioning on, along with our refrigerator, stove, and even most of the lights. I wondered what our neighbors were thinking when they saw we had air conditioning and lights, while they were sitting the storm out in the dark. The generator was one of the best purchases we ever made.
