The clue to needing an air filter change

I have a little trick I sort of use to know when it is time to change the air filter in my central heating and air conditioning system.

And it all comes down to the toilet lid in my bathroom! I know that sounds a bit goofy.

But because of how it always happens, if the lid of my toilet ends up getting a bunch of dust and dirt on it, then I know it is time to change the air filter of my central heating and air conditioning system. This is because when the air filter is dirty, it starts blowing the dust and dirt in small particles right out of the air vents above the toilet seat. This was a great way to remind myself to change the air filter of my central heating and air conditioning system as well. Before I figured this trick out, I sometimes would go a few months or more without changing the air filter of my central heating and air conditioning system. This began causing some issues around my house when it came to sneezing and other allergic reactions to the bad air quality. So in a way, I am thankful for my toilet lid! One day I went into my bathroom and had noticed that my toilet lid was very filthy and I knew something wasn’t right because I had just cleaned it. That was when I figured out it was the air vents blowing dirt and dust and from that day on, I ended up using this as a sign and reminder to change the air filter in my HVAC system!
