When I got home the other night, I didn’t get a hello or a kiss from my wife. I walked in to crying kids and a yelling wife. All she told me was that the kids were playing and they broke the thermostat. My mood was already set my non-greeting and I yelled at the kids. After I had a chance to think about it, I knew that I had probably played ball in the house when I was their age. I talked to them and told them that I expected them to pay for the thermostat. I was going to cut their allowance in half until the new thermostat was paid for. I called the HVAC company and asked them to come in and install a new thermostat. While he was there, he was showing me other thermostats. He suggested I may like to get the new Smart Thermostat. The Smart Thermostat was not only able to monitor and regulate the heating and air conditioning, but I would have control of the HVAC, from remote areas. I knew the new Smart Thermostat was going to be much more expensive, but I thought it would be a good investment. I told him to go ahead and install the new thermostat. I know that it wouldn’t be fair to charge the kids for what I did, and I only plan on charging them for the replacement of a basic thermostat. It only seemed a fair punishment to make them pay for the thermostat, but it wouldn’t be fair for them to pay for the Smart Thermostat. I hope that it eventually pays for itself.
