I work at a mental health facility and the other day was one of the absolute worst afternoons I have had in a long while. You see, one of the worst possible things happened to us when the HVAC system quit working! The HVAC company was called immediately, but unfortunately they couldn’t get an HVAC repairman out for several hours. In the meantime, I had to deal with the miserable patients in the facility. Well, without the air conditioning functioning, the patients were getting a bit out of control. Many of them wanted to get out of the facility, but of course I could not allow for that to happen. Unfortunately my colleagues and I had to keep them confined despite the lack of air conditioning. So we had to settle for opening windows and having fans running, which was not nearly enough to appease these patients. They eventually went nuts, running around and breaking things throughout the facility and even coming after the staff members. Three of the patients pulled me over to the laundry chute and threw me down it! Well, I fell down the laundry chute only so far before I got stuck near the bottom. I could have been seriously disfigured. Being stuck wasn’t any fun either. I had to scream for help until finally some of my colleagues were able to pull me out. It was such a relief when the HVAC repairman finally showed up to repair the air conditioning. That’s when the patients acquired their meds and finally calmed down due to the air conditioning! It was a really rough day. My boss asked me if I wanted to go back home after going through that experience. But I’m a strong lady so I decided to finish my shift.
