With the holidays and Christmas approaching numerous people are looking for ways to help out those people who are less than fortunate. The missions downtown are typically in need of added volunteers and extra funding to make sure that time special for people who normally don’t have much throughout the year. I stopped by a nearby soup kitchen to see if I could help out, they had posted a long list of ways to help out and a single of the items on the list caught our attention. They have a link posted to make donations to help cover the expenses for the daily bills. I thought this was a smart plan because people can participate even if they don’t have time to go to in guy to help them out. I copied the link into our cellphone and then posted it on our social media page to help to spread the word. This will help the soup kitchen a lot because they will be able to afford to keep the place warmed up. Their building is used as an emergency shelter for easily frosty afternoons to get people off the cold streets and having electricity and gas to run the Heating and Air Conditioning plan is so important. I am sure that the daily bills add up hastily and as a non-profit, they are mostly dependent upon the generosity of others to keep the place running. All of the staff, with the sole exception of the employer, are volunteers too. Many of the local churches send groups to help them out with cooking, cleaning, and even serving the meals. I typically believe I am fortunate that I have a hot house and a safe place to be on a frosty Winter time night. If I can help anyone out, even a little, to make someone else believe the same as me then I am gleeful to do so.
