Yoga studios can be known for their classes as well as their heat. Some studios warm all of their classes to a certain temperature while others have heated and non-heated classes. At the studio where I teach, we offer a variety of classes that range from cool restorative yoga to hot and sweaty power yoga. There truly is something for everyone. During the cooler months, it takes a little bit to get the studio temperature just right for those power classes. You also have to keep in mind the amount of people in your class and how their own body temperature will increase the heat in the room. Recently the studio manager installed a smart thermometer. It’s really quite brilliant for a yoga studio that doesn’t have back-to-back classes. It allows me to download an app to my cell phone and control the temperature. That way I can crank up the heat to 90 degrees without anyone being in the studio and when I get there before it’s time to teach my power class, the room is nice and warm. The smart thermostat is also very easy to use, and the large numbers on the thermostat display are easy to see. When you just walk by, the temperature flashes on so you can see if the room has gotten too hot. When my class I over, all I have to do is turn down the dial to reduce the heater or even turn on the AC to really cool the studio down for the next class that doesn’t like to have it very warm inside. It’s a perfect addition to the studio.
