During winter time, the weather around here can get icy and cold. It is very common for the snow to pile up. Last December was one of the worst and and my kids were out of school for half the month. We had snow storm after snowstorm, with barely any end in sight. With icy conditions and rain, they kept the schools closed for a few days. Thankfully, I work from home full time . I can be here with the teenagers, if they spend the day at home. They spent most of the month at home last December, and I was ready to pull my hair out of my head. Since it was so it was so cold, they could not go outdoors to run off steam. The teenagers were arguing and fighting regularly per usual, but one afternoon, I heard a loud bang and then a loud oops. I walked into the living room to find the space heater over on its side. There was a puddle of liquid on the carpet underneath the heater. Whatever liquid came from the area heater smelled awful and was reluctant to come out of the once pristine carpet. I was irritated with the teenagers for causing such a mess. Luckily, the heater still worked just fine. I scrubbed the floor with every cleaner in the house, but nothing worked. I ended having to call a professional carpet cleaner in order to remove the oily stain from our living room carpet. I can still see a faint circle of oil on the carpet. It is a physical reminder that the teenagers cannot be left alone for more than a few hours.
