My mother was always the 1 who wanted to beautify the world.
The sod had to be evenly trimmed all over the property. She had her elderberry bushes placed perfectly, so she could picked every berry off the bush. She had her lilac bushes surrounding the yard to block out the traffic. They were placed with precision and had she put heads on them, you would suppose they were soldiers resting in a row. They were perfectly laid out and trimmed. When dad put central air conditioning into the house, she was frustrated that the AC unit interfered with her landscape. She didn’t like the idea that all of her taxing work was being marred by the ugly AC unit. Dad asked her if she wasn’t the 1 who wanted air conditioning in our home and she said yup. She told her that along with air conditioning, there was going to be some changes. One of the changes, and an obstacle, was the outdoor AC unit. She had to put up with it or have the air conditioning go away. I could see she thought about losing the air conditioning, although she finally succumbed and told him she wanted the air conditioning. A couple months later, she had flowers and bushes planted all around the air conditioning. She had bought a book that told her how to take care of the air conditioning unit. When dad told her about the plants, she told him that there was nowhere in the book that said she couldn’t plant near the air conditioning. She had made a path between the air conditioning and the row of bushes. It had plenty of air space and you could get back to it easily, although she no longer had to look at it.
